I stopped by Co-op on my way to the river. I was hungry and wanted to pick up a few pieces of fruit and some water to take with me.
When I arrived at my current favorite spot I found a man working on his bike. It was obvious that he was traveling cross country from all of his paniers. He was hunched over his front tire when I walked up to him.
Me: “Traveling Huh“
Him: “Yep”
Me: “where to”
Him: “New Mexico, Santa fe”
Me: “Are you trying to beat the snow”
Him: “well something like that”
Turns out he started in Soiux Falls. He got this wild Idea to bike to his friends graduation, an adventure by bike. His mode of operation, see as much as possible on the way there, to travel without a tent, and eat as much organic fruit and veggies as possible. Although he admits that once somewhere between Fargo and Duluth he ate three dozen Crispy Crème donuts that a gas station was going to throw out "cuz" he was out of money. He said he would put a bunch in his handle bar bag and ride and munch as he went, which worked well until the “sugar coma kicked in”. He reflected a bit then added, “Fig Nutins are much better”.
Which brought up a big question in my mind, Fargo and Duluth are definitely not on the way to Santa Fe. “Yah I know” he said “I just thought it would be cool to see Duluth and then travel south”. I could see He traveled with his heart and the wind.
I wrote down his name and a few websites on a banana that he suggested to look at if I ever got the idea to adventure by bike. I gave him a Mini loaf of wheat bread to take with him and offered him a salmon pouch. “Just the bread” he said and “wow thanks man” as he took it.
I have decided to publish his name after a dabating it. Mostly because he was not blogging along the way and perhaps it might be helpful for someone to know he was here in Saint Paul, MN on October the twenty fifth on the banks of the Mississipi. His Name is Steve Davis.
Good luck Man

I wished that at some point in my life I would have the courage to do something so cool.
Hampton, not to far from me. My cousin is building a new house in Vermilion.
Anytime you want to meet for drinks let me know, I would love to see you again.
