From my window

Eagles surround me. I once counted seven of them in the just outside of my window. There was many more in the air and on both banks of the river.

The river is abundant this year, giving these eagles more than enough to eat. I have watched them flying down to river to grab fish straight out of the water for most of the day now. Sometimes they fly right by my window after a catch. Close enough for me to identify the fish held tightly in their talons. These fish are what we call shad, technically a minnow, but they can be as long as a hand.

Apparently, these eagles are well fed and have lots of time to play, as there have been lots aerial acrobatic chases. Sometimes the eagles end up talon to talon.

A pair of mallard ducks arrived as the sun was setting, their first appearance of the year.
