I will participate in Nanowrimo (national novel writing month) this time around, having stood at the sidelines for the last couple years. Look for me, Floating Leaf on the site to check out my word count as I go.
I know this is going to be hard, this creative process, but for me the hardest part has always been the begining. So having a start and end date might just be the right amount of motivation to see it through, well that and the word counter pushing me along.
Now if I can only resist the urge to edit the story as I write. Because if I start to edit the story I will never finish it.
Writing a novel; It is going to be a wild ride.

I'm so glad you're going to do this!
go go go GO Chris! oh yeah.. see ya there my friend.
(My very very bestest advice for NaNoveling is DONT LOOK BACK! and write everyday. Just read yer last sentence from yesterday and run with it, dont THINK about it too much lol!)
Yer gonna have a total complete blast with this. If yer REALLY feeling daring.. try a Magz: no wordcountin! Just write till either the story's done or yer at the last day of Nov. oh, and lay in a goodly supply of coffee and snacks lol!
oh, and go get yer participant sticker at their homebase and paste it inta yer blog.. it makes ya proud and looks cool
Hi Michele,
I am glad that your going to do this too! Whew-wee seven more days until the start of Nanowrimo!
Hey Magz,
Thanks, you are so right about the no looking back part.
So what kind of snacks worked for you? I am thinking that I may need a Nano maid who can also cook for the month of November. As for coffee I gave it up about a month ago, maybe I should have waited huh. Lots of Ginseng tea perhaps. As far as the Nano participant sticker, do I cut and past it into my template?
hehehe... well you know my favorite snacks for writing are budweiser and coffin nails.. but Taza actually turned me onto a winner my first year.. choclate covered coffee beans LOL
Since I usually write very very early am in an unheated house.. my bestest treat was good coffee with a shot of Bailey's Irish Creme.. made me feel all warm n fuzzy. When I could afford it lol.
Mostly.. it's just the focusing Chris. Set yerself up for at least an hour a day with no distractions; no phones, no IM's, no break to cook elaborate meals. Dont worry if ya cant think of anything to write.. no pacing or handwringing trying to force words outta yer brain, just type! Anything! You may find yer so far off yer original tangent that ya start laffin out loud, and find a way promptly to segue it into yer book somewhere. Nobody ever said ya gotta start with Chapter 1 and write till The End.. you can just slap in scenes anywhere and sort em all out later LOL
The sticker is an easy add, yup, just c/p, open up yer template and scroll down a ways till ya recognize stuff from yer sidebar. paste it in somewhere and hit preview.. if ya dont like it there try somewhere else. I'm not too hip of a template tweaker myownself (others have done much of my farmblog's) but that's easy enuff that even I can do it LOL
Hey Magz
Good advise. Ya know I never thought of that (not starting at the begining), it is quite a freeing concept. Perfect for how my brain works. Besides it takes the pressure off of coming up with that killer first paragraph.
Now for the Nano sticker...
Take care
