The end is near; we who work on the river know the cycle. School has started and the river traffic will dwindle. Shortly the buzz of the occasional barge will be co-mingled with the frosty mornings and the falling leaves. Commercial boats will either begin their trek south or abruptly tie up for the winter. Quiet will begin, leaving us, the last of the river workers to listen to her ice. This “still” period reminds me of who she was before and in many ways still is, powerful and living. A river not a plaything or a highway for our grain and scrap metal.
Abruptly as the cycle started it will end at the same door where it all began. For me the whole process of saying goodbye to the river has evolved into a sacred moment, never the same but always sweet and powerful. A moment shared and left loosely between friends.

Wow. When you put it like that, the summer went by incredibly fast!!!
Chris - Have you visited your old blog address? Unless you have decided to decode it in German... how weird. I left your old link up and noticed that there were updates done on it. I checked it just a few minutes ago and it looks like someone has taken it over...
So this is where you ran off to?? I have been wondering. Much like babynteenmom I was confused at your old blog
Hi Bobbi,
Summer sure did fly by. I enjoy all of it.
Take care
Hi Sylvia,
Wow, I was not aware of it until now. I admit it was kind of wierd seeing it. Overall I was glad that its back in use in someway. For awhile a blogspammer had taken it over and that made me sad.
Its good to hear from you again. I tried to email you awhile back through your profile. It seemed to work but when I had not heard from you I had my doubts.
BTW Good luck in your upcoming Tri!
Hi Audra,
Here I am.
